Role Overview
As a CAD Technician at our Manchester facility, you will play a key role in supporting our engineering and manufacturing teams by producing high‑quality 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings. Your work will help develop our product designs, improve manufacturability, and contribute to innovation across our transformer and power‑system technologies. This role is highly interactive, offering hands‑on experience in mechanical detailing, design development, and production support within a high‑voltage engineering environment.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong practical CAD skills, attention to detail, and a passion for creating efficient, well‑engineered design solutions.

What you’ll do

Design and detail: Produce accurate 3D CAD models and detailed fabrication drawings for

transformer tanks, cooling systems, structural components, and sheet‑metal assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.

Support manufacturing: Work closely with shop‑floor teams, assist with drawing queries, and help troubleshoot design‑related challenges as parts move into production.

Collaborate: Work alongside experienced mechanical and electrical engineers, contributing to integrated engineering solutions on high‑profile customer and development projects.

Learn and develop: Gain exposure to transformer construction principles, mechanical design standards, and quality processes while expanding your CAD and detailing expertise.

Improve and optimise: Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping refine design practices, enhance manufacturability, and support cost‑effective engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Produce and update 3D CAD models and detailed fabrication drawings for transformer tanks, cooling systems, sheet‑metal parts, and structural assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.

Prepare accurate manufacturing drawings, ensuring clarity, manufacturability, and compliance with internal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.

Support manufacturing and fabrication teams by providing resolving drawing queries, and contributing to process improvements.

Participate in design reviews, providing input to help maintain high quality standards and support the delivery of first‑class engineered products.

Work closely with electrical and project engineers to ensure mechanical designs integrate effectively within complete transformer and power‑system assemblies.

Contribute to continuous improvement and R&D activities, helping develop improved design methods, drawing standards, and innovative product solutions.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
-
Experienced using Autodesk Inventor.
-
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software, minimum 2 years’ experience.

Understanding of materials science, fabrication, and mechanical systems.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Interest in power systems, energy infrastructure, or heavy engineering.

A willingness to learn and taken on new challenges

Curiosity, creativity, and a passion for problem-solving.

A team player who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Desirable:

Previous industry experience through placements, projects, or prior employment.

Knowledge of related disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, electrical transmission and distribution.

Experience drawing transformers transformer components, sheet-metal fabrication drawings, and mechanical detailing or magnetic electrical products.

Proven experience or passion for Engineering Design and Development.
